About This Book

The Broken Breath opens an ambitious literary project: a ten-volume chronicle series tracing the lives of men and women across the African continent. This first volume tells the story of a Cameroonian village at independence (1960-1970), a founding moment when Africa negotiates its reconstruction in a complex post-colonial context.

Through five characters embodying five visions of the world colliding, the novel explores a universal question: how to reconstruct when the power to create has been confiscated? A literary journey through contemporary African realities in all their complexity.

The Chronicle Series

A Ten-Volume Continental Project

The cycle “Once upon a continent” tells of seventy years of African reconstruction (1960-2030) through four generational lineages emanating from Volume 1.
Planned volumes: 10
Current status: Volume 1 published in French. English and Portuguese editions in development.
